Sagar, which showed a range of BAIC vehicles at the Pakistan Auto Show in 2020, is in the process of entering the four-wheeler. The Greenfield Investment Company has joined hands with BAIC Group, a joint venture with Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz) in China.
The vehicles to be exhibited were the D20 hatchback, X25 crossover and BJ40 SUV. Except for the BJ40, the D20 and X25 were both right-handed units, suggesting that they would be launched at an early stage, while the BJ40, which was left-handed, remained unmanaged. Probably to test the public interest and this shows the potential that the company can offer.
The BAIC D20
is based on the 2004 Smart Four platform, while its styling is heavily influenced by the first-generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class. The BAIC X25
Crossover sits on the same platform as the D20 hatchback and is equipped with the same 1.5-liter engine found in the D20, with the 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox options. There were two different versions of the X25.
The Baic BJ40
The most impressive fact-badge is the 40 SUV. It comes with a choice of 2.0 and 2.3 liters of turbocharged petrol and 2.4 liters naturally aspirated petrol engine and adds to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is a part-time 4WD front-engine vehicle and sits on the front dual wishbone and multi-link suspension. The company did not disclose the official prices of these vehicles, but to our knowledge, the price of D20 and X25 will be around PKR 1.8 million and PKR 2.0 million respectively. There is no word on the introduction of the BJ40 at this stage, but the company may consider introducing the vehicle later this year or early next year.
